In real estate, success doesn’t come from chasing deals. It comes from showing up—every single day—with consistency, care, and a deep sense of service. The agents who stand out aren’t always the loudest or flashiest. They’re the ones who listen, show up prepared, and truly want what’s best for their clients.
That’s why I was so excited to sit down with Anne Lusk on my podcast. Anne is the owner of Lusk & Associates Sotheby’s International Realty and one of the top-producing agents in Pennsylvania. Her story is proof that when you lead with heart and stay consistent, big things happen.
In our conversation, Anne shared some powerful truths about what it really takes to build a long-term, purpose-driven real estate business. Let me discuss the biggest takeaways from that episode!
How Anne Lusk Built Real Estate Success One Relationship at a Time
Real estate is a people business. That’s something Anne and I agree on fully. Behind every transaction is a story, a challenge, and a big life decision. The agents who understand that those who slow down and truly serve are the ones who build businesses that last.
Servant Leadership: Putting People Before Transactions
Anne made it clear from the start: she doesn’t chase commissions. She chases outcomes that are in the best interest of her clients. That might mean telling someone they’re not ready to buy yet—that they need to save more and that it’s smarter to wait.
It takes guts to say that in this business, but Anne does it because she cares more about the person than the paycheck.
That kind of honesty builds trust. And that trust? It builds referrals, loyalty, and a reputation that money can’t buy.
The Power of Mentorship
Anne is passionate about raising up the next generation of agents. She’s mentored people from all walks of life and helped them launch amazing careers. What she looks for isn’t polish or sales skills. It’s heart, work ethic, and integrity.
One of her former assistants went from helping with paperwork to selling millions, eventually moving to California and thriving on his own. Another young man was hired because of how carefully he wiped counters. That attention to detail said everything about his mindset, and he went on to lead his local realtors' board.
I love this so much because it's exactly why I created Pending and Trending as well. I want my podcast to be a platform for professionals to share what works and how they grow. That’s why I’ve invested in podcast production by Icons of Real Estate. Their support helps me create space for real stories like Anne’s.
Building Trust Through Preparation and Follow-Through
Anne also talked about how she handles failure, specifically when she doesn’t get the listing. She doesn’t blame the market or make excuses. She reflects.
Did she prepare enough? Did she drive in the neighborhood? Did she understand what the seller needed?
That level of accountability is rare and powerful. It’s what makes her a force in this industry. She believes every missed opportunity is a chance to get sharper for the next one.
Daily Growth Through the 1% Improvement Rule
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was when Anne talked about the 1% better every day philosophy. Every night before bed, she writes down one thing she could’ve done better that day. Maybe she ran late. Maybe she could’ve been more prepared. Then in the morning, she reviews it and works on improving it.
It’s not about making huge changes overnight. It’s about steady, intentional growth. That kind of mindset adds up, and it shows in her results.
Taking on New Markets with Grit and Intention
Anne could have stayed comfortable. She’s already known and respected in Central Pennsylvania. However, she challenged herself to open a new office in State College, a place where no one knew her name.
And, guess what? Her first listing there was one of the biggest residential sales in the area. She walked into that market with humility, curiosity, and a deep desire to serve. She’s starting fresh, and she’s doing it the same way she built her original business: one relationship at a time!
